Things to do - general

Mashad City is Iran’s second largest and has more than 3 million inhabitants. Mashad gets its name from the 8th Imam Reza and buried here since the 9th century, the Sjiitischepilgrimage site of Iran. His enormous mausoleum with impressive mosque makes this city pilgrimage center of Iran. Older Tus, now part of Mashad, the birthplace of Ferdowsi. This poet of the year 1000 lives on in his Persian epic the Shahnameh.

A visit to Mashad itself is particularly interesting because of Imam Reza. Mashad is also an excellent base for visiting Tus (Ferdowsi) Neyshapur (Khayyam) or in transit to / from Turkmenistanalong  Silk Road . Mashad has excellent air, bus and train connections to all major cities in Iran.
