Hiking Golestan Province | 7 Days Hiking Iran
In this expedition we explore specific parts of East Alborz Mountain Range. Scenic panoramas, cascading waterfalls, bright green pastures and snow-capped mountains are only some of the highlights of a road trip to Golestan province, Combine that with a unique colorful culture.
Destinations: Tehran – Shahroud – Ali Abad Katul – Gorgan – Tehran
Day 01: Tehran – Shahrod (420 km)
Drive to Shahroud (old famous Silk Road destination), after check in, visit the Shrine of Bayazid Bastami, which was a Persian Sufi known as “King of the Gnostics, and Grand Bazaar. Shahrod overnight.
Day 02: Shahrod – Abr Jungle Hiking – Aliabad Katul (210 km)
Abr (cloud) jungle is one of the oldest and most beautiful jungles in Iran with some rare plants and animal species. It is located 50 km north east of Shahrood and is full of steep hills, and a river runs in there. Abr jungle is part of Hyrcanian forests and a border between 2 ecosystems: semi desert and forest and is the border of 2 provinces: Semnan and Golestan. It is called Abr (cloud) because in most cases it is covered by an ocean of clouds and sometimes it seems the trees are over the clouds.
Early morning en route to visit Abr jungle, have 10-15 Km hiking at Abr jungle and have picnic at hill with nice overlooking to jungle. Continue to Aliabad katul by Khosh Yeilagh and Azad shahr. Aliabad Katul overnight.

Day 03: Aliabad Katul, Kabud Val Waterfall Hiking
This day is another interesting day to enjoy amazing nature of Golestan province, Kaboud-val waterfall is wholly moss waterfall that is located on 5 km south of Aliabad city. Its walking path with mid -sized slopes and with low – height stairs so beautiful. There are several small and large waterfalls in the way to the main Kabud-Val waterfall, which each has their own spectacular beauty. We drive for 10 min in a mount- forest road and then for 3 km by foot to reach the waterfall.
After nice trekking we continue to visit Gonbad-e Qābus tower (UNESCO’s World Heritage), 80 Km (50 mint) from Aliabad Katul. Then we continue to Rig Cheshemh eco lodge to have dinner there and enjoy nice nature and local food. Aliabad Katul overnight.
Day 04:Ali Abad – Golestan National Park Hiking
About Golestan National Park:
Golestan National Park with 900 square kilometer area that has 1350 plant species and 302 animal species including half of the mammals of Iran. It is one of the best natural reserve in the Middle East. It is one of the famous areas of Iran because of its natural values, like verdant and virgin forests and various species of flora and fauna. Some of the most animals which live in the park are: the Golden Eagle, Panther, Bear, wild Sable Cat, Wolf, Fox, Caspian Red Deer and Gazelle and several bird species. The most important flora is formed by the fig, mulberry, wild pear, walnut, raspberry, barberry and different medicinal plants.
Early morning we start our adventures trip eagerly to see what nature would bring to us. We drive about 130 km to main part of Golestan national park in road of Gorgan – Bojnord. After passing main road of park, we would continue to Almeh zone, where we do trekking and have chance to see animals like Red Deer and Gazelle, on October it is animal birth time. Aliabad Katul overnight.

Day 05: Aliabad Katul – Gorgan, Hiking Alangdareh
Today is a unique day to experience cultural attraction of Gorgan along its natural wonders. In the morning go to Alangdareh Jungle, an amazing tourist destination, located at 5 km southwest of Gorgan. Have soft trekking at jungle in woody sidewalk and enjoy its amazing nature. Then visit Tagavi historical house and Nalbandan Bazaar. Afternoon en route to Bandar Turkmen have nature and cultural tour, visit Turkmen people, taste their local food and have excursion to Turkmen Bazaar .You can take a boat to Ashoradeh Island in Bandar Turkmen .Gorgan overnight.
Day 06: Gorgan – Tehran (413 km)
We head to Tehran by Firuz Kuh road that takes us to famous bridges of Veresk which are built in World War II, It is 110 meters high and open since 1937 for trains. We will continue our route to cross the mountains through our sneaky routes and dirt roads to get on the highest balcony at 3000 meters elevation.
Day 07: Tehran
Transfer to the airport for the flight home, or continue Iran adventure by visiting Iran’s highlighted destinations; Shiraz, Yazd, Isfahan and Kashan.
